Due to the successful completion of a previous project for Mersey Care NHS Trust we were able to demonstrate that we had the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to deliver such a sensitive project. The works were undertaken within the confines of Ashworth High Secure Hospital. The hospital treats patients with mental illness some of which are criminal. All the adjacent areas and buildings to our works were occupied throughout the construction period.
The existing building was of traditional construction and the project comprises the provision of 23 en suite bedrooms together with communal and staff areas all of which will be fully fitted out. The works involved structural alterations, the strip out of the existing M&E services and all fixtures and fittings. Following which we then installed new high security windows, doors and a new electrical and mechanical system.
External works included revised drainage and creation of a new secure garden within a 3m high security fence.
Due to the nature and location of the works our working hours were severely restricted.
All our staff and operatives had to be vetted and approved prior to the works commencing. The stringent security procedures involved no personal belongings, mobile phones or sharps being allowed into the high security area. Each day all operatives went through security to be body and x-ray searched. All tools had to be checked and documented on a tool list so that they can be checked at any time.
The project was completed on time and to budget.
“Once again CPUK have successfully delivered a project for us. This was a complicated scheme due to the nature of the environment and involved close liaison with the security staff. The clinicians and staff are absolutely over the moon with their new facility. Please pass on my thanks to Brian and the rest of your site team on a job well done. I would have no hesitation in working with CPUK again or recommending you to others.”
