A design and build project which involved the construction of a new 2 storey, 48 bed care home following demolition of an existing building and the refurbishment of 2 listed buildings.
The new building consisted of traditional masonry with beam and block floors together with timber trusses and a tiled roof. Underfloor heating was installed throughout and en-suite facilities provided to each room.
The Grade II listed North and South buildings required stabilisation as they were in poor condition and were refurbished to provide a Day Centre and Offices. This involved the introduction of tie restraining systems, forming new openings, brickwork remedials, replacement of the existing timber roof structure with re-use and replacement of existing slate tiling.
The external façade included new timber sash windows, cleaning down and repointing of the existing masonry walls and replacing damaged/defective areas of render. The south block was internally fitted to completion whereas the north block had new floors throughout which were timber and had to be done sequentially to keep the existing structure stable.
The site entrance and vehicle access onto the development was from the existing Torkington Park entrance, therefore it was a requirement at all times to ensure minimal disruption and provide safe public access to both the Secret Garden which adjoined our works and the popular local Park.
Our scope of works also involved the provision of car parking spaces and all external landscaping.
“Due to the dedication and professionalism of the CPUK site management team, we would have no hesitation in using CPUK for future projects. I would like to commend the hard work that CPUK put in to deliver the project.”
