Jennifer Eccles

Hi there! Can you introduce yourself for us?

Hi, I’m Jen Eccles and I am an Assistant Estimator at CPUK Group. Before working here, I did an apprenticeship at Lancashire Constabulary and then decided I wanted to go to university to do a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying which I am currently completing through CPUK Group.

How long have you been in your current role?

I’ve been working at CPUK Group for 4.5 years.

And what brought you here?

I really liked the idea of being able to learn and work at the same time and CPUK gave me the opportunity to do this. I work 4 days a week and spend the other day at university completing my degree.

What does an average day at work involve for you?

In the past I have assisted Estimators with take-offs/pricing of specific work packages for both tenders and cost plans. Now, I find myself with the additional responsibility of pricing my own tenders and directly liaising with both the Client and Design Team.

What are the best things about your job?

I love being involved in a variety of sectors and it’s great to see a project you have been successful in securing completed and handed over.

What advice would you give to young people entering the industry?

One piece of advice I would give is to take every opportunity that is presented to you which enables you to learn and grow.

Tell us something unusual about yourself?

My name appears in a song by The Hollies and a song by The Scaffold.

What do you get up to in your spare time?

Travelling – I love visiting and exploring new places.

If you weren’t in your current role and could have any job, what would it be and why?

A tattoo artist, I love tattoos and hearing the stories behind them. Being able to bring someone’s idea/s to life would be amazing, I’m just rubbish at art which is pretty fundamental!
