Co-Operative Funeral Parlour, Oldham

A design and build project involving the relocation of the funeral parlour due to the expansion of the Manchester Metrolink. This was a fastrack development involving 7 day working together with bank holidays due to the client’s completion date.

The scheme was complicated due to the fact that it was located on the side of a hill and required substantial reclining wall structures. Further challenges were experienced as access to our site was only through Manchester Passenger Transports live construction site for the new metro link.

The site was also land locked on 2 sides by busy roads. The project involved the construction of a single storey funeral directors comprising of a steel frame and traditional masonry. The completed scheme provides a reception area, chapel, counseling rooms, viewing rooms, embalming room, coffin store, garage together with offices and staff facilities. The project was completed on time despite various contract changes.

“The project was well managed and Neil and Andy worked with us to ensure we achieved a building fit for purpose. They involved us when decisions were to be made and tried where possible to accommodate any variations. Excellent job all round.”
